![]() ![]() This is on the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN). So take everything Google with a bucket of salt.īut try this sever which is on a 10Gbps link in 3 different campus datacenters and likely not ever overloaded. I don't have GFBR yet despite the conduit and fiber hut in my neighborhood 6 years later. It's particularly salient during evening hours less so during day time hours. To test this yourself, regardless your GF location, just randomly select Speedtest sites, especially on the east or west coasts and see what you get. This is particularly the case during peak hours. ![]() Speeds are max (900+/900+) both ways on Google Fiber generally in my local region, such as again using GF's own Austin based speed test as well as some local Dallas based peers, such as into Cloudflare or Fast.Īll this suggests either higher network peering problems with Google Fiber or GF is being deliberately and widely throttling by outsiders on the download (to receivers) only side. Of particular note, if I use a VPN I often get faster download rates than on Google Fiber native to these same sites, often 500Mbit (vs GF 100-200Mbit!) Using Speedtest, from Austin, I get ~100-~200Mbit download / 900Mbit+ upload rates to most sites on Speedtest, hardwired to the jack, with occasional exceptions that are full speed each way. I've been exploring this issue for a month and half. While it's true that not every speed test site will give maximum speeds, I am seeing such a pervasive pattern of under performance, that something else is going on. ![]() All they care about is that I get full speed to their Austin (local) speed test site. I couldn't get anywhere making Google Fiber frontline support to accept my problem for further evaluation, and look into it, so I am looking here for a reality check. ![]()
